My Story
Thank you for visiting today. My name is Richard Clarke. I am an experienced integrative psychotherapist having worked with clients in NHS, mental health charities, employee assistance programmes, private practice and managed a university mental health service as the clinical lead for a large team of practitioners. I now maintain this private practice to support clients with more in-depth therapy needs.
My interest in therapy started with my own experiences as a client, learning skills to manage life's challenges and gaining a deeper understanding of my self. Working with charities to support homelessness, learning disabilities and social exclusion, I saw the impact for people of addiction, trauma and poor mental health. I wanted to understand how to help and so I made a career change studying a BSc in Psychology and then an MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
I care deeply about creating a safe, confidential and compassionate space to explore your challenges and experiences, whilst feeling genuinely heard. It is so rewarding to see the life-changing impact that therapy can have and I am honoured to share that journey with so many of you.
Alongside my training in psychology and psychotherapy, I also integrate over 2 decades of personal experience practising and teaching meditation and mindfulness, sharing skills for soothing, relaxation and mental resilience. I bring life experience from careers as a submariner, an operations/strategic manager and as a husband, father and grandfather. So I appreciate life's ups and downs. In my spare time I like walking in the Peaks, and playing guitar/singing (when the audience lets me!)
